Hotels in Épernay: From Avenue de Champagne to the Vineyards

Since the movie Champagne Problems (Netflix, 2025) hit the screen, hotels in Épernay have been booking up fast with travelers chasing champagne, excitement and maybe even a little unexpected romance.

Filming of the feel-good Christmas hit took place in France’s Champagne region, with memorable scenes shot at Château Comtesse Lafond on the iconic Avenue de Champagne in Épernay.

Épernay, of course, has a long history of hospitality. From hosting royal dignitaries to welcoming today’s champagne lovers from around the world, this elegant town has always known how to receive its guests in style.

While you can’t stay overnight at Château Comtesse Lafond, you can visit for guided tours and tastings of their champagnes and historic estate spaces. It’s also the perfect base for exploring the famous Champagne houses in Epernay. The good news for travelers is that there are many excellent hotels Épernay offers just steps from the Avenue de Champagne — ideal for a romantic weekend, luxury getaway or charming boutique stay.

If you’re searching for the best hotels in Épernay, this guide has you covered. I’ve stayed or dined at several of these standout properties, and trust me — these hotels Épernay travelers love are absolutely splurge-worthy.

📌 STAY UNSTOPPABLE TIP:  The Office de Tourisme Epernay en Champagne reports that the 25th Habits de Lumière — which I just attended — saw a sharp surge in attendance, welcoming 21,000 more visitors than the previous year. Translation: hotels in Épernay book up fast, so reserve your accommodations well in advance.

🛏️ Where to Stay Near Avenue de Champagne

Instead of staying at Château Comtesse Lafond itself, you can book lodging nearby in Épernay, such as:

La Villa by Michel Gonet

This historic bed-and-breakfast in Épernay, is right on the Avenue de Champagne — one of the best locations in town for exploring champagne houses on foot. The converted mansion offers just a handful of guest rooms, creating an intimate, boutique feel. Rooms feature thoughtful comforts, and a highlight of my stay was an excellent champagne tasting led by Michel Gonet’s granddaughter, Diane Signolle, right in the mansion.

Hôtel La Villa Eugène

The only 5-star hotel on the Avenue de Champagne itself, set in a restored 19th-century residence once owned by the Mercier family, blending historic charm with modern comfort. Rooms here are limited and highly sought after, so if staying on the Avenue de Champagne is on your wish list, this is one “book now” you shouldn’t hesitate on.

La Goutte D’or

I stayed at this highly rated bed & breakfast in Avize (in the heart of the Côte des Blancs vineyards) on my last visit for Habits de Lumiere. You’ll love the beautifully restored 19th-century home with excellent breakfasts, attentive hosts—Franc and his wife— cozy rooms and spa-like touches — ideal for couples who want a peaceful, vineyard-immersed stay away from the busier center of Épernay.

Hôtel le Relais du Vigneron

A historic-feeling hotel in Blancs-Coteaux/Vertus with wine-country character, on-site restaurant, garden and winery vibe — set among vineyards about a 15–20-minute drive from Épernay. Read about my comfortable stay and over-the-top dining experience here.

La Chevalée : Chambres D´hôte Épernay – A cozy B&B in nearby Hautvillers (the village of Dom Pérignon) for a quieter, intimate base. A quiet favorite among in-the-know travelers, La Chevalée’s small size means availability disappears quickly — book early

🛏️ Other Great Local Choices for Epernay Hotels

  • La Demeure d’Elodie – A charming bed & breakfast right on the Avenue — perfect for boutique style at a lower scale. This elegant, small-scale guesthouse has limited rooms and strong demand, so book now before availability in Épernay disappears.
  • La Cave de l’Avenue – A great B&B stay just off the famous street. If you want to stay near the Avenue de Champagne without the hotel crowds, this is a book-now kind of place

Things to do in Epernay | Ways to Celebrate:

Here are a few ways I recommend first-time visitors dive deep:

  • Start at the Office de Tourisme Épernay en Champagne. Free daily tastings, maps and bookings.
  • Visit Pressoria in nearby Aÿ-Champagne. This interactive museum opened in 2021 inside a former grape-pressing center. It lets you experience terroir, geology and aroma in sensory ways—I felt like I was sitting inside a glass of Champagne! Take it from me, make your reservations now, you don’t want to miss this!
  • Tour the Musée du Vin de Champagne et d’Archéologie Régionale. Learn the history behind the bubbles.
  • Book a Greeter through the Epernay tourism office as I did. My greeter, Jean-Marie, gave me an authentic look at vineyards and villages beyond the Avenue.
  • Book a Champagne tasting tour with one of my favorite sites, GetYourGuide.com.

With these resources, even a total novice can feel confident exploring Champagne houses Epernay style.

How to Visit Epernay from Paris

Épernay is about 90 miles / 145 km east of Paris, in the Champagne region of northeastern France. You have the following 3 options to visit Épernay from Paris.

  • Public transport: You have two options. From Paris, you can take the SNCF bus (website) to the center of Epernay in 2 hours and 40 minutes. You can also take the train from Paris Est train station, which will take you in about 1 hour and 20 minutes (more info via the SNCF website)
  • By rental car: This is a nice way to visit Champagne country, driving directly to Epernay is just 1 hour and 37 minutes. I like to rent a car via Expedia.com, where all rental companies are compared. The advantage of a rental car is that you can also take detours to other Champagne destinations like Reims or Hautvillers (compare rental cars on Expedia.com).
  • Day trip from Paris: The most comfortable way to visit Epernay is with an organized day trip from Paris. With this day trip to Epernay and Reims, you spend a day on a chauffeur-driven minivan with a guide who takes you to the most beautiful places. You can choose between two combinations:

Traveling soon? Don’t forget to pack these essential items

Here are 4 often-forgotten items you don’t want to leave home without:

  1. I would have been lost in Europe without this power bank: Anker Nano Power Bank, 10K, 45W, 8.1 oz. Just imagine your phone running out of battery while you’re exploring London.
  2. And speaking of power, you def don’t want to forget a plug adapter – this is the one I use – I love it because it has 3 USB-C ports!
  3. You can’t beat this Sea to Summit premium neck pillow in terms of minimum weight and packed size. Who doesn’t want to get some shuteye on those long flights?
  4. I’m hooked on longer rain jackets that look as good on Paris boulevards as protect you on the trail.

📌 Bonus: Here’s the carry-on I swear by! My travel-tough Samsonite bags have lasted decades.
