Chances are that you are familiar with the Grand Canyon as a national park. Some might know it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World or a World Heritage Site. But do you know that the Grand Canyon is a sacred space for eleven indigenous people groups?

You can learn about the Grand Canyon as a sacred place by listening to a new series of Native American podcasts, “Grand Canyon Speaks.” The series focuses on Indigenous perspectives and the people who have called the Grand Canyon home for a time that extends back ages.

Native American Podcasts Born of NPS Interpretive Programs

Conversations for the Native American podcasts developed out of an interpretive program also called “Grand Canyon Speaks.” That summer program featured live in-person conversations between Grand Canyon National Park rangers and tribal members.

The live conversations were recorded and produced for the Native American podcasts released for Native American Heritage Month. Of the many episodes recorded, seven were selected based on audio quality.

All seven newly released episodes were recorded live, usually in front of a live audience.
